Continuing our design team series, we’re getting to know our talented Design Technician who’s been with us for over 4 years. We sat down with Aditi to chat about her journey from India to the UK, her passion for creating experiential spaces, and what keeps her inspired.
Q: How did you find your way into interior design?
A: I studied Interior Architecture in India, completing a five-year bachelor’s degree. My early career was in India, where I worked with both design consultancies and fit-out companies. After taking a sabbatical to travel and focus on my family during my move to the UK, I joined Jennor and later moved to CubicWorks, where I’ve now been for four years.
Q: What’s your design style in 3 words?
A: Simple, organic and functional.
Q: Where do you find your inspiration?
A: My inspiration comes from a mix of fellow design disciplines, Pinterest, and the places I explore. I love immersing myself in different cultures, architecture, and local environments while travelling – I’ve visited 14 countries so far – and I always bring elements of those experiences back into my work.
Q: What does a typical day look like for you?
A: Every day brings a new challenge. I work across a range of projects – space planning for one, technical drawings and construction packs for another. I collaborate closely with project and site managers, which often means wearing a hard hat and heading to site. At the same time, creating 3D designs, mood boards, and maintaining clear client communication are all important parts of my daily routine.
Q: What excites you most about working in interior design?
A: I love the process of creating new spaces, particularly space planning and turning concepts into practical realities. It’s all about blending creativity with construction processes and techniques to deliver functional, well-designed environments.
Q: Tell us about a standout project you’ve worked on.
A: Exchange Court is a full building refurbishment project I’m proud to be part of. It’s a CAT A refurbishment across the basement, ground, and first floors of this Victorian Italian-style heritage building. With the help of a heritage consultant, we worked to preserve original finishes we uncovered during the rip-out. We submitted proposals in August 2023, and the project is set to complete in June 2025. It’s been an exciting and detailed journey from start to finish.
Q: What’s been your favourite project so far?
A: My first CAT B design-and-build project for CubicWorks was York House – 9th Floor for Hope for Justice. It featured bespoke elements like divider screens that integrated power and data, TV zones, and a bold dark colour scheme. It was a great opportunity to lead creatively and technically.
Q: What are you excited about working on right now?
A: A Project related to the health sector – taking sensory considerations into account while creating an inclusive and supportive environment.
Q: What’s a myth about interior design you’d like to bust?
A: Interior design is more than just decoration. Interior design is about spatial awareness,
