Meeting Our Design Team: Edmund Chan

Getting to know our talented interior designer who joined us just over two months ago, we sat down with Edmund to chat about design, inspiration, and what makes him tick.

Q. Tell us about yourself and your background!
A. I’m an interior designer at CubicWorks and have been here just over two months – it’s been great so far! I actually worked with CubicWorks in the past while I was at my previous job. I studied interior design at the University of Salford and spent the last eight and a half years at Intrinsic, specialising in commercial design.

Q. What does a typical day look like for you?
A. There’s no such thing as a “typical” day. Some days I’m on-site with a hard hat, other days I’m designing, drawing, or deep in thought (which totally counts as working, it’s called creative thinking).

Q. What excites you most about interior design?
A. Turning ideas into spaces that people actually use, that’s what excites me. Creating something that isn’t just seen, but felt and functional.

Q. Describe your design style in 3 words.
A. Functional, creative, and innovative. Well, at least that’s how I like to think of my style!

Q. Where do you find inspiration?
A. Instagram and Pinterest are great for discovering fresh ideas, but nothing beats visiting places in person – experiencing a space firsthand always sparks new creativity.

Q. Any designer you particularly admire?
A. Neri & Hu, known for creating thoughtful, story-driven spaces that mix old and new. They use raw materials and architectural elements to design interiors that feel both modern and deeply rooted in culture. That said, I find the interior design team at CubicWorks incredibly inspiring to collaborate with!

Q. Any myths about interior design you want to bust?
A. That we’re just carpet and curtain people! (Spoiler: we paint walls too.)

Q. What are you working on now?
A. I’m working on a workplace project in Leeds – my first official project as part of CubicWorks. I’m supporting the wider team in delivering a Stage 3 design to build, and I’m really excited to see it come to life and finally move beyond pixels on a screen.

Welcome to the team, Edmund! We’re excited to see all the creative magic you’ll bring to our projects and look forward to sharing more of his work as he settles into his role at CubicWorks.
